Mikey's Late Night Slice

Those involved in the encounter pictured above.
This past weekend a story was passed around on many social media sites. While waiting for a piece of pizza at a food truck Late Night Slice, two men Joel and Ethan were holding hands. Another man in the line told them to "cut that gay shit out." In result of his comment, many of the people in line told him that his comments were inappropriate and to leave the two men alone. The man continued to harass the two men. One of the workers leaned out of the truck and told the man that they do not serve customers that discriminate against others. He told the man to leave the line. The man left the line and was not allowed to get his piece of pizza that night. Joel and Ethan were quoted to be impressed in the amount of support and that there were so many allies among strangers.

I thought that this story related to some of the text in Chapter 2. It shows how the man who called the two men out expected them to fit under social norms of the past. The support of the two men show that social norms have started to shift and the rules of conduct are different than in the past. LGBTQ rights have started to become more culturally acceptable and allies are starting to appear out of the woodwork.
